The patented, floating door with its bellows style side walls is one of the keys to a clean pond. If there was no door on the skimmer opening, there would be lots of water going in the box, but very little off the surface. The floating door forces all of the water to come from the surface, creating a much better flow of debris into the skimmer. The old, inefficient style skimmer door has gaps along the bottom and sides that allow water into the skimmer that does not come from the surface. The bellows sidewalls on Pondsweep Skimmers force all of the water to come from the surface, for a more efficient skimmer. On deep ponds, the extra efficiency can be used to power a bottom inlet to the skimmer for a more efficient flow of water from both the top and bottom of the pond.

Even though small fish can swim in and out of a skimmer, it is possible that a large fish could swim in and find limited room to turn around to get out again. Slow swimmers like some varieties of fancy goldfish may take a few days to figure out that they should not swim next to the skimmer, but they will figure it out. Keep the lid off the skimmer and check under the door and net for missing fish when a skimmer or fish are added to a pond.

Note: The pump gallons-per-hour range listed for a skimmer is based on how much water can flow through the door opening and how much can flow through the filter mat. The more flow through the skimmer, the faster the pond is filtered, but that also means the filters need to be checked and possibly cleaned more often.

Pondsweep PRO Skimmers (700, 900, 1200) have the ability to place the vertical filter mat in three positions front to back. This allows for large pumps or for more rows of filter mats or rows of filter brushes in front of the mat. There is also the ability to place the mat in one nearly horizontal position.

The net also has the ability to go into two positions. The second position allows for a one inch bypass for people leaving the pond unattended for an extended period.
